Discover the Tasty Veluwe by bike or on foot

In the South Veluwe River Basin, you can enjoy beautiful cycling and walking routes. And this area isn’t called the ‘Tasty Veluwe’ for nothing! It is full of agricultural treasures, both old and new. They are tucked away between the ridges, the forest, the open Binnenveld, the heathlands, and the meadows. These places are not only remarkably beautiful, but also rich in stories. It is precisely these places and stories that give this area its special flavor, or ‘terroir.’

Along our walking and cycling routes, you’ll discover swaying grain fields, prehistoric Celtic fields, picturesque gardens full of diversity, and cafés and farm shops where you can enjoy delicious tastes. The stories of farmers and other local residents complete the experience. Listen to the podcast.

Oosterbeek

Cultural heritage from the lowlands to the high grounds of Oosterbeek.

What makes this route of approximately 10 km special is that, while cycling, you trace a cultural-historical line across the push moraine: from an ancient sacred site at the foot of the ridge to the prehistoric burial mounds with Celtic fields on top. Suddenly you realize that both are still in use today, albeit in a different form.

You can also sense that this is a remarkable area from place names such as De Oorsprong (The Origin), De Hemelse Berg (The Heavenly Mountain), and De Hel (The Hell). Along the way, you pass babbling streams, tranquil forests, and beautiful vistas. You also pass two community gardens and a food forest shop. Coffee and refreshments are available at the start of the route, and at Tuin de Lage Oorsprong (between April and September).

Wageningen

Pioneers on the Eng and Binnenveld of Wageningen

A beautiful cycling route of approximately 10 km that takes you through two areas of cultural-historical significance. You begin and end on the Wageningen Eng, a unique, centuries-old agricultural cultural landscape directly south of the city of Wageningen. To this day, pioneers continue to experiment here with small-scale food production between the city and the forest, and this is also where the longest wild hedge (wildwal) in the Netherlands begins. The route also leads you into the Binnenveld, an open agricultural peatland area.
Refreshments: Along the route you will pass a farm shop, the university campus with cafés, and an organic farm shop. At the end of the route, there is an opportunity to enjoy food and drinks at the campsite.
